March 2003

Weather - Becoming more humid with occasional light showers

In contrast to the two previous rather hectic months, March was devoid of major social events.

However we did have some parties and other happenings to attend, not least the first of what was to prove to be several very successful musical evenings at the newly opened Jomtien Boathouse Restaurant, featuring the superb playing and singing of Rick and Harpic (in action above).

As well this this musical duo, the event featured many of the best acts to be found around Pattaya, as well as guest performances by members of the audience which in itself revealed a wealth of talent.

Another happening was the opening by a friend of his new bar and restaurant, the Studio Cafe. The special attraction of this venue was to be a large screen on which would be shown each evening a selection of classic movies and top TV comedy shows.

For the opening, a gala spread was laid out, and a live band was on hand to entertain, as well as an appearance from ‘Elvis’.

On the personal front, I joined the local lawn bowls club, something I had been meaning to do for some time but had not previously found the time for.

Having only played indoors in the UK (and not particularly well even there), I found the transition to the outdoor arena with it’s more variable surface (to be polite) rather difficult to adjust to, but I have found a good crowd of ‘social’ bowlers (i.e. people who do not take it too seriously), and the club itself to be a very friendly and sociable place.

So now a further two or sometimes three of my evenings (it’s too hot to play in the daytime) are taken up with this activity.
