Motor Racing at Bira

Over the past couple of months, we paid two more visits to the Bira Motor Racing Circuit just outside Pattaya.

On both occasions as before we found that we were admitted for free, and were even offered a free raffle ticket for an unspecified prize (which we declined).

The first occasion was a hot sunny day and we confined ourselves to viewing from a sheltered spot near the final corner, and with a visit to the pits during the lunch time interval.

The next time it was dull, overcast and with the strong wind making it feel almost chilly, just the conditions for wandering around, so armed with camera I explored most of the accessible part of the course via a track side path that ran from the final corner past the start/finish line along the main straight and up to the hairpin bend.

On both occasions we witnessed some excellent racing mostly from the saloon car classes, unfortunately most of the sports and racing car events were hampered by a lack of entrants and the uncompetitiveness of some of the cars.

Our pit walk (again no charge) gave us the chance to view some of the machinery at close range, but more interestingly to see the dancing girls performing in front of one of the major sponsors tent.

At this time the organisers also permitted members of some visiting car clubs to take their own vehicles onto the track for a few laps touring round, all controlled by pace cars.

All of which made for another couple of enjoyable days out, again for a surprisingly small crowd in attendance.

The following is a selection of photos taken from both events; as usual to view any of these full size, just click on the appropriate thumbnail.
